5 Easy Ice Cream Recipes to Chill the Kids This Summer

Summers have started and so does kids’ demand to ask for an ice cream every now and then. As soon as they jump out of their school bus, they begin asking for an ice cream after spotting the nearby ice cream seller. I am sure there must be many moms like me who must be strictly against artificial colours and preservatives in foods. In almost every visit to the doctor, my paediatrician always advises me to give preservatives free food to my kids as they do more harm than good. So, I always avoid ice cream from markets. But what to do when kids become adamant on having an ice cream after coming from school? We can’t say no to them every time. What’s the solution then? Make them at home!

So, here are 5 recipes of ice creams that are extremely easy to make, take less than 10 minutes of time, very healthy and of course yummy.

1) Banana Ice cream

1 Ripe Banana

Powdered Sugar

Full Cream Milk

Peel and cut the banana into thin slices. Keep it in an airtight container and freeze it for two hours. Put the banana slices in a blender and blend them nicely. Add a glass of full cream milk and powdered sugar according to taste. Blend it well. Pour the mixture in ice cream mould and freeze it for 4-6 hours.

2) Chocolate Ice cream

Cocoa powder

A cup of fresh homemade cream

Powdered Sugar

Condensed milk (optional)

Take the cream and blend it. Add powdered sugar and two table spoons of cocoa powder. Mix it well. You can add condensed milk if you like. The mixture should be blended well. Pour it in ice cream mould and freeze it for 4-6 hours.

3) Mango Ice cream

1 Ripe mango

A cup of fresh homemade cream

Powdered sugar

Condensed milk (optional)

Peel the mango and cut it in small pieces. Take it in a blender and blend it till it becomes a smooth paste. Add powdered sugar and cream. Mix it well. You can also add condensed milk. Blend it thoroughly. Freeze it for 4-6 hours.

4) Oreo Ice cream

Oreo biscuits

A cup of fresh homemade cream

Powdered sugar

Condensed milk ( Optional)

Take Oreo biscuits in a blender and crush them roughly. Don’t crush them too much to make a powder. Take them out of the blender and put it in a bowl. Take cream and powdered sugar in the blender and blend them till they become a smooth paste. You can add condensed milk if you want and blend thoroughly. Now put it in the bowl containing crushed Oreo biscuits. Mix everything well. Put it in ice cream mould and freeze it for 6 hours.

5) Strawberry ice cream

1 Cup strawberries

Powdered sugar

1Cup fresh homemade cream

Condensed milk (optional)

Cut the strawberries into small pieces. Put it in a pan and cook them till they become soft. Add powdered sugar in it. Let it cool down. In a blender, take cream and condensed milk. Blend it till it becomes smooth. Now, mix strawberry in it. Put it in ice cream mould and let it freeze for 4-6 hours.

Her Wedding Lehenga (A short story)

Kanika’s wedding was fixed after six months. She was very excited. Aniket was her co worker in the same bank. Their parents had liked approved their relationship and happily given approval for their wedding. Her mother’s happiness knew no boundaries.

Kanika came back from her bank one evening and found her mother packing her wedding saree. It was a beautiful red saree with golden work on it. “Mom, what is this? What are you doing with your saree?”

“Nothing, beta, your wedding reminded me of my own sweet memories. I wore this saree on my wedding. It made me feel so special.” She replied. “Come here.” She put the saree on Kanika’s shoulder. The colour of the saree suited so well to her. She looked so pretty. Kanika blushed to see herself in the mirror.

“Kanika, we should shopping for your wedding trousseau. There is not much time. We need to book your wedding lehenga also.” Her mother said.

“Mom, you know my taste and I trust you, please do the shopping on my behalf. I don’t have time enough to go for shopping. As it is the bank is open for extra hours due to demonetisation.” Kanika replied.

Everyday her mother would go to the market and buy sarees and jewellery for her. She would show it to Kanika. Kanika was very happy to see her trousseau being prepared by her mother so lovingly.

“Kanika, when are you going to book your lehenga. It will need a lot of time to get stitched. Why don’t you take a day off?” Her mother asked her one day.

“Mom, don’t worry I will do that soon. You take care of the entire trousseau and everything else. I will take care of the lehenga. You just leave that to me.” Kanika replied.

Her wedding preparations were going on full swing, she was increasingly busy with the bank.

Her mother kept reminded her for her wedding dress but she had no time to go for shopping.

She promised her mother that she will get her wedding dress prepared in time. She wanted to surprise her mom with her choice so kept it as a secret.

Wedding functions started all her dresses were ready, her mother asked her about her wedding dress. She told her that she had booked it online and it will be delivered in time.

Her mother trusted her so she did not dwell upon it any further.

The wedding day arrived. Her mother was very emotional. It was a moment of great joy and full of emotions.

The house was filled with family members and relatives. Her friends were also there. She told everyone not to play emotional wedding songs. She did not want to see her parents and siblings crying. She wanted to leave her parent’s house by spreading joys and laughter all around. She instructed her friends to share a lot of jokes with her family.

After the morning ceremonies, she left with her friends for the salon to get ready. In the hustle bustle, her mother forgot to ask her about her wedding dress.

After getting ready, her cousin would take her directly to the venue.

At the salon, she took out a picture from her purse and told the makeup artist to do a similar makeup and hairstyle. Her friends admired her. She looked stunning in her makeup and hair do. When she took out her wedding dress, her friends complimented her. It was extremely beautiful and different from the ones that they had seen so far. She looked gorgeous.

Her jewellery was even more beautiful and different.

She arrived at the venue and went to the room booked for her. Her mother came in to see her.

“Kanika!” Tears started flowing down her eyes as she looked at her. Her little doll had grown up so fast and looked perfect as a bride. Her beauty was beyond words. Then she noticed her wedding dress.

And here’s what, she was wearing a lehenga cum saree made of her own wedding saree.

“Kanika, what is this, you are wearing my saree. But why? Why didn’t you get a new lehenga made for yourself?” Asked her surprised mother.

“Mom, remember the day you put this saree on my shoulder. I could see in your eyes that you wanted to see me in that saree of yours. So, I decided on the same day that I would get it reshape and wear it on my wedding. I kept it a secret from you because I wanted to give you a surprise. It’s a from me to you. Something that both of us will remember and cherish in our hearts always. Mom, I could never ever express my gratitude and love to you as much as I have always felt. There will never be a gift so special for you which I can give to you express my love. So I thought that if I wear your wedding saree, it will always be special for both of you. Your special day and memories will become mine and mine will become yours. I hope you will understand and accept this little gift from my side.”

Her mother started crying. She hugged her tightly. Her little girl had grown up to become a beautiful human being. Her tears expressed her happiness for the wonderful gift her daughter gave to her.

My Daughters My Pride

Why do I need to wear necklaces,

When I have the arms of my daughters around,

Why do I need any danglers,

When I have their chitter chatter about,

Why do I need any rings,

When I have their tiny fingers holding mine.

The two beautiful daughters of mine

Are far more precious than any diamond shine,

I don’t ever need any pearls,

I need not to wear any jewels,

Their sparkling smiles are my biggest treasure,

Their wonderful plays are my greatest pleasure.

One by one I hold them nearer,

So what if the world demands “the better”,

They are the better SUN than any SON,

Their talents are measurable to none,

They give so much love my heart can’t hold’

So pious are their hearts made of gold.

Easily I would say it to the world,

I am proud of my daughters,

Let the hanging heads mourn for “the good”,

Daughters are the blessing bestowed on you,

Thus, make merry and become joyous,

Be thankful to God for bringing His heiress.

To Travel is to Live

How I wish to travel wide,

Like an albatross flying high,

sailing the seas and crossing the oceans,

Gliding high and low over the hills ,

For travel is to see and live,

From meeting new people and eating new food,

Learning new language of me and you,

Bridging the cultures ,

merging the boundaries,

Travelling opens new possibilities,

Melting differences opening opportunities,

Thinning the clouds and sparkling wisdom

Travelling takes us through the horizons

To travel is to learn and experience,

The lives of others and our own

To see, listen and explore ,

modern new world and folklore.

Housewife- an Asset or a Liability

“Who am I?” I often question myself. Whenever I see the column of ‘occupation’ and ‘designation’ while filing up some forms, my hands shrink back from writing the word ‘HOUSEWIFE’. Something gets killed inside me. My pride, my ego, my self-respect…

The salary cheque by the end of the month used to show me my worth. It used to give me the value of my time and hard work. Being financially independent used to instil a sense of pride in me. I could go out with my head raised up and do anything. But now, what am I? A mere housewife!! What do I do sitting all day long at home?

I was working as a teacher with one the very big and reputed schools of Delhi. The salary amount was big too. I was a big contributor in the family expenses so I could prove my worth to everybody. My confidence level was very high. But there was a price that I was paying. And that was my daughter!

I was leaving behind my five years old daughter. She was going to school and was being very well looked after by her grandparents. Still, she was not happy. She did not like to come back home and find mummy was not there to share her feelings. She did not enjoy her lunch without her mummy. Gradually, she started falling sick. Every now and then she had to be taken to the doctor and was on frequent leaves from school. It affected her school performance too.

Slowly, the guilt started sinking in my heart.

“Was my being successful meant everything? Was that salary cheque more valuable than my daughter?”

I could not bear it anymore. My interest and concentration   started falling. Eventually, I gave up.

After my second daughter was born, the thoughts of taking up a job again seemed impossible. I devoted my entire self in taking care of my precious darlings. One day, my elder daughter said to me, “Sorry mom, you had to leave your job because of me. Do you know, when you were not there at home, I used to feel alone. I cannot live without you. Please, don’t ever leave me again. Promise me, you’ll never go to school again!”

I started crying…

We women, even after giving so much to our home and family think of ourselves as a non-earning and unproductive member of the family. We need to change our perception about ourselves. Think it this way –

When we are working as a housewife, we take care of each and every family member’s health and wellbeing, thereby reducing the number of visits of doctors and chemists. We search and prepare meals taking care of the right nutritional requirements of everybody’s specific needs, thereby working as a dietician and nutritionist. We take the responsibility of teaching and taking care of our kids, thereby saving the fees of tutors and day cares. We take the responsibility of cooking and household washing and cleaning chores, thereby saving the salary of the maid. We also take the responsibility of financial planning and work on saving every single penny, thereby increase bank investments and reduce the stress of our husbands. We give more time to friends and relatives, thereby perform the job of a PRO.

We are the indirect income providers and still we consider ourselves as a mere “HOUSEWIFE”.

Needy Bee Product Review

What is Needy Bee?

Needy Bee is a brand which provides clothing and accessories for babies and kids. The brand is created by parents like us who believe in the safety of the kids first. We all look for products for our babies which are safe, natural and chemical free. Have you ever wondered the clothes that we use for our babies can have chemicals too? Needy Bee is a brand which provides chemical free, azo free and synthetic free clothing for babies and kids.

What I like about Needy Bee products?

I have always preferred cotton, muslin and hosiery clothes for my kids. These clothes are soft, flexible and do not cause any irritation on babies’ skin. When I read about this brand, I was impressed to know that this brand uses Indian fabrics like cotton, linen, muslin, lawn long cloth and mulmul fabrics. By the wisdom provided by our mothers and grandmothers we know that these fabrics are soft, breathable and non-irritable. These fabrics are extremely good for the kids since they absorb moisture and keep the skin cool.

So far so good, I went on to see their collection and was taken in completely taken in by that. The designs, prints and style are fashionable and in keeping with the latest market trends in kids’ fashion. They provide complete head to toe collection.

Designer Wear for my Doll

Made of the finest and pure cotton fabric, I received two dresses from the brand. The material of the dress is pure and soft just like my doll herself. The first look of the dress made her crazy for wearing it. The frills of the frock fulfilled her fancies. The green colour suited her so well and the fit seemed to be just made for her. The fine cotton material of the dress makes it perfectly summer cool.

Why do I recommend?

It is 100% does not cause any rashes or irritation on my doll’s delicate skin. It absorbs sweat. The fitting and style is appropriate according to the sizes given. Even after washing it does not leave any colour or shrinks like other cotton clothes. The style and fitting provides flexibility of movement which is extremely important in kids clothing. It is easy and comfortable to wear. The products are worthy of its price since they are made of surgical cotton.

Other products to look for:

A look at Needy Bee’s collection and you do not need to go any further as it provides exclusive gift collection available in beautiful gift packaging and boxes. The Maths Scare in Children: Causes and Remedies

I think all of you here, must agree with me when I say that Maths is not everybody’s cup of tea. As kids, many of us would have found Maths as a ‘boring’ subject. The number would often get jumbled up in our minds. And when it comes to solving word problems, very few hands would be raised in class.

For this very reason, we now have many mental maths classes coming up. As parents today, enrolling our kids in some maths class comes on top of our list. Hiring a tutor for maths has become almost necessary today because we feel that it is a difficult subject. It might be for the simple reason that we as kids never liked maths as a subject and as parents now we find it a little difficult to teach this subject to our children.

But why does this happen? Why do children begin to develop a hatred and at times even a fear for this subject? What are the reasons for it?

fear of maths 4

  1. Mathematics is abstract

Children cannot see mathematics when it comes to solving mathematical problems. Children need to visualise something clearly before liking it.

  1. Teaching Methodology

The conventional system of teaching this maths lacks innovation. Students find it boring and their interest level begins to go down.

  1. Conversion of word problems into equations

Children find it difficult to convert word problems into equations. Without any kind of visualisation, children fail to understand the concepts thoroughly and often end up mugging them just like any other subject.

  1. Poor command over tables

Most of the time, children do not learn the tables properly. It makes it difficult for them to perform even the simplest calculations. As a result, they take a lot of time in solving mathematical problems which makes a simple paper difficult for them.

  1. Lack of interest in trainers

A common mistake that we as parents make is to admit our own dislike for the subject in front of the kids. We often tell them that maths is a difficult subject, they cannot teach them maths as they themselves feared it and never scored well in the subject. Children immediately start thinking maths as a difficult subject.

So, what can we as parents do to help our children. developing an interest in this subject. Here are some possible ways to do so:

  1. Parents should play board games with their children. Board game which are based on numbers help in creating an interest in numbers. Children begin to see numbers as fun.
  2. Children should play constructive games based on problem solving like puzzles instead of any destructive or war based games.Preschool-lego-resized
  3. Parents should play maths based games with their children to make them number friendly. When children see their parents as enjoying numbers, they start enjoying it too.
  4. Parents should never express their own fears or dislike of the subject in front of the kids.
  5. Parents should themselves try to identify the problem areas of the children in the subject rather than merely focusing on grades or homework.
  6. Parents should take an interest in their children’s studies rather than simply relying on coaching classes. They should try to sit with them during their study time and help them in solving problems.

fear of maths 3

Mathematics is a subject that requires logical thinking. It cannot be learned by way of rote memory. If we try to adopt the right attitude towards it and try to adopt creative ways of teaching it, our children will never find it boring or scary.

For the love of Adventure Sports: Della Adventure Park

For this year’s summer vacations, AD (my husband), planned to take us all to Lonavala. The most favourite summer holidays destinations with those born and brought up in Delhi are usually Shimla, Manali and Mussoorie, Lonavala came as a surprise for us. Not knowing what we are going to do there, me and my girls were super excited for our new holiday destinations. We reached our resort which was another surprise for us( I will come to that in my next blog), Lonavala turned out to be a beautiful place. The weather being extremely pleasant, the skies were rich with thick, dark clouds, greenery and hills surrounding us. We immediately fell in love with this place. The girls going crazy after their daddy for bringing them to this beautiful place.

AD is an adventure sports lover and my elder one has taken just after him, so he took us all to Della Adventure Resort, telling us that he is taking us all for ‘horse riding’ keeping the thrills and adventures of the place a secret from us. My girls had already decided the names for their ponies, Majesty for elder one and Dash for younger fans coming from one of their favourite Barbie movies. Horse riding was enjoyed by both the girls, the next activity gave them the pleasure of experiencing a pet dog which was Dog Walk. Della owns some very fine breeds of well trained dogs. The dogs are very friendly and walked with the girls very gently.

Starting on our list of adventure sports activities, we took bungee jumping and rodeo ride first to let the girls get used to adventure sports. The initial round went well with both the girls, younger one, not having used to much of rides and thrills and elder one having a craze for huge and thrilling rides. Some other activities in this zone which is Zone A include Aqua Zorb, Water Zorb, Roller Zorb, Bumper Boats and Bubble Soccer. Cycling with a baby wagon, Double Seater Tandem cycling and mountain cycling were some other interesting activities in this Zone.

The most interesting activities for adventure sports lovers like AD who loves to have an adrenaline rush are Flying Fox, Swoop Swing and Zip Line. Swoop Swing takes you to the height of 100ft, from there it swings you down. It takes two to three persons and ties them together in the swing. The longest Flying Fox is 1250 ft long and takes you sliding through a rope way is sure you give you loads of thrill and adventure. AD and my elder one were so thrilled by it that they took the zip line as well which is shorter but still not less than 500 ft and definitely gives lots of excitement.

To keep the energy going, this adventure park has Motocross Dirt Bike ride, ATV ride and Buggy ride. The ATV ride was the one AD decided to take and loved to get clicked on. Elder one chose to have some bridge fun in Burma Bridge, Swinging Bridge, vertical net crossing and Broken bridge. Not only that, she was super excited to climb up in the Artificial Rock Climbing and ring the bell. Land Zorbing is a ride where in one is seated inside a big ball and rolled down from the mountain of about 200 ft height. This 20 seconds ride rotates you at 360 degrees. So much and more for people like AD and my elder one.

For those who enjoy milder activities like me and are scared of heights, there is a gaming zone with some very interesting virtual games, chess, table tennis, carrom, air hockey to name a few. There is a day care centre for smaller kids and virtual dancing which kids can enjoy.

Apart from sports and games, there are dining facilities with five dining options having their own specialty. The Parsi Dhaba which is in the style of an open street dhaba serves Parsi and Punjabi cuisine. PNF Restaurant and Bar having Indian, Malvani and Oriental cuisine, Sports Bar with Italian cuisines , P18 Nightclub and lounge which serves only appetisers and is open from 8 o’clock at night to 1:30 in the morning. Café 24 is a fine dining multi cuisine restaurant and has very fine interior with dim lights and comfortable sittings. The food served here is extremely good and staff is friendly too.

The place also offers rooms on rent for a stay. What more, Della Adventure Park has a 24 hour spa to refresh and rejuvenate you during the vacation. Jimmy Mistry has certainly given us a wonderful ‘one-stop- shop’ Adventure Park. The only thing which I would like this place to have more is some sporting activities for pre schoolers as our younger one could not as much sporting activities as her sister.

The staff is hospitable and cooperative too. The package makes the visit more reasonable with over 70 activities to choose from. Definitely worth a visit and I am looking forward to coming here again.

Note: this is a non sponsored blog . The views expressed here and experiences shared are entirely my own. For further information :

As the summer vacations are about to be over, all the mothers out there must be busy in compiling up their children’s project files. Well, mine is ready too. It seems the holidays home work are not for our children but for us. Our tiny little hands seems to be too little to do their vast homework. So, there, all the emotional and helping moms gear up to take the charge. Here are a few tips to decorate their ( or should I say ‘our’) project files:-

1. Quilling-

A beautiful art done with the help of paper strips and quilling needle. One can make any number of designs and use it anywhere. A beautiful cover page, bordering, frames, etc. , use it anywhere and the project is sure to stand out.

Use the glass paints and make a small painting on an OHP sheet and a beautiful sheet is ready. It can be used either as a cover page or somewhere in between the pages to beautify the project file.

3. Sand painting-

Sand painting can be done by our little hands too. Since they enjoy being messy, let them do so while doing sand craft as it will help to enhance their creativity.

4. Paper cutouts-

Paper cutouts of flowers, patterns, leaves, animals etc by using handmade paper is a sure eye catcher. They look absolutely fantastic when blended with small stones or glass decorative pieces.

5. Origami-

Origami is another beautiful craft form that can be enjoyed with our little ones. Not only they will enjoy but learn a lot with this craft form. A small origami object when pasted in between the sheets looks elegant.

6. Ice cream stick and match stick activity-

Ice cream sticks and matchsticks activity done by our little ones during their art and craft classes or at home can also be used to decorate the projects too, highlight them using colourful stones and your job is done.

8. Dried leaf activity-

A little challenge to your brains and the dried leaves will turn into a masterpiece. Use it for your cover page and your project file becomes extremely impressive.

9. Other craft objects-

Sometime during the holidays when your little ones had brought some beautiful craft object can be used too. An old CD turned into some animal, paper bag activity, mask making activity etc can be used to decorate the file.

10. Borders-

Last but not the least, the borders are a must . Don’t leave the borders blank or else all your hard work looks dull. Do highlight the borders using paper cutouts, handmade papers, bordering tapes, stickers, paper punches etc. It will enhance the beauty of the project file unlike any other thing.

Hope you find my ideas in helping your children decorate their project files and files. Do share with me your ideas too.
